Description:
History of the Maddock Memorial Home
The Memorial Home building was built originally as a hospital by shareholders of the non-profit organization known as the Memorial Hospital Association, Incorporated. The building was dedicated July 13, 1952. The hospital opened on September 12, 1952. The hospital closed in November of 1974 because of lack of medical staff and legal problems with the building. The hospital board then decided to convert the hospital to a basic care home and a clinic, planning to have residents from the Moeller Home, a Home for the Aged to move its residents. The State Fire Marshall allowed the Moeller Home to stay open until the hospital could be converted. The Memorial Home, a 25 bed basic care home opened in February of 1976. In July of 1976, the Johnson Clinic of Rugby opened a branch office in Maddock. Johnson Clinic, P.C. continues to operate in the space today as a satellite clinic. The Home is licensed by the North Dakota State Department of Health. The Home continues to provide basic care to 25 residents that we consider our family. The Memorial Home residents must be able to care for themselves with minimal assistance. The Home provides medication assistance, meals, laundry activities, housekeeping and much more to its residents. Residents have the option of either a semi-private room, a private room with shared bathroom or an efficiency apartment. The Memorial Home also has four, 2 bedroom apartments attached to the complex that may contract for services if needed. It has been the Home’s philosophy to keep the community active with the Home and the residents active with the community, keeping in mind a “Resident First” attitude. The Memorial Home calls themselves the “Home With Heart,” and enjoys touching many hearts of residents and their families who have called the Memorial Home their home.
